You know this feeling, where everyone
in your crew or your boss or colleagues keep coming up with creative ideas
back-to-back and you just feel stuck wondering how it’s so easy for them.
Marriam webster defined creativity as
the ability to create, bringing something into existence. Creativity
encompasses the ability to discover new and original ideas, connections, and
solutions to problems. It’s a part of our drive as humans. It will always
be in you to try and find solutions to problems. And easier ways to solve
issues or ways to make money.
How then do we bring out this part of
us that wants to solve problem and discover new ideas?
There are a few things you need to
understand about creativity;
1)
Creative people have intense knowledge about something or a strong
desire to know more: I know we have people
whom we call geniuses and it might be hard to compete with them when it comes
to creativity. But what if gathering knowledge and building an
intense desire over time is the leveler you need? There’s this saying
“hard work beats talent when talent refuses to work hard”
2)
How Useful are your ideas: Can your ideas be generalized, can
they be applied in the real world? I have been in meetings where people
just want to say something so they don’t look dumb, but the idea behind
creativity is that, you bring up solutions that can actually work. They don’t
need to be the loudest in the room, they just need to be the difference.
3)
Think Outside the box:You can’t solve a problem with the same thoughts
that created them. Sometimes you need to see the problem in a different light,
other times you need to outsource. Brainstorming could help open you up to
creative ideas.
