OAU held her 2021/2022 Matriculation ceremony at Amphitheater on the 14th of March 2022. The street of the African most beautiful campus (Great Ife) was congested with Freshers looking elegant and full of life.🥰 A series of Photography modulations were in the air.
Matriculants were rushing to get into Amphitheater while some others were busy with their parents fussing over them. A few others like me were probably sightseeing and enjoying the view. Every Fresher in OAU officially becomes a student of this University only after they have been matriculated 🎓.
Shortly after, Following the appointment of the New Vice-chancellor, Professor Simeo Bamire, there has been an uproar among Ife indigenes. The claim was that an Ife indigene has never emerged as the Vice-chancellor of the university and for this reason, they decided to put up a dramatic protest. We could recall that the protest began the very minute Professor Simeo Bamire was appointed as the new VC.
However, it was obvious that the Ife indigenes weren’t here to joke. After various forms of protest, they finally aggravated the situation of things by summoning their gods. For a moment we thought, the legendary filmmaker Kunle Afoloyan was shooting another Epic Yoruba drama or probably dramatic arts students were staging their rehearsal openly.😂. Yes, it was that dramatic.
However, this is no movie but a real-life situation. The Ife indigenes blocked all gates and they weren’t allowing anyone in or out of campus. Everyone was compelled to stay at their various places of residence till everything died down. The news of these protests went farther than Ile Ife as some parents were calling to confirm the safety of their children. The Osun worshippers stormed an academic environment, masquerades were displayed publicly, and petitions were written too. All these were for the fact that they wanted an Ife indigene as the newly appointed VC.
The latest news was released on the 26th of March, 2022 after a meeting was held. The greatest 'gba gba' decided to shock us all with the outcome of the meeting. The management of the University has granted the students a two-week mid-semester break which started on Monday, 28th of March. The news was released through the school registrar, Mrs Omosule.
As it is, we all have been sent home, so let's pack our bags and go home! Lol. It was also said that NASU and SSANU are also on strike. Almost every student out there is taking a midterm break also😜This two weeks break is way longer and better than the two days we received in secondary school.😂 OAU be really shocking us.
Cheers to a productive break🥂
