Harmattan Semester's Social Events

Phew! Harmattan semester’s finally over. I think I speak everyone’s minds when I say ‘it was a rollercoaster ride, but we’re all glad it’s over now’. That aside, it was fun for most people. I mean, our DOSocials cooked, served and we all ate (well, most of us). Starting with the welcome back party that was thrown at the beginning of the semester at Royal Divas lounge on the 29th of November 2024. It started around 9pm and continued as an overnight affair. That party was the definition of ‘lit’. Ireoluwa Aroyehun knows her onions and really did a thing cutting them into size. The entry fee for the party was two thousand naira and it was worth every penny!

As Psychife freshers’ week arrived, our DOSocials and the catalyst crew worked their magic as an awesome movie night was planned for the entirety of Psychife. It took place at geography lecture theater and the entry fee was 500 naira. We watched a psychological thriller, Secret Obsession. The movie was quite interesting and the popcorn and drinks we were given made it even more interesting.

The next event was the mountaineering which was in collaboration with the DOSports, Solomon Olaleye. Anyone that came for this would agree with me that it was fun. It wasn’t just any normal boring ‘climbing up the mountains’ kind of thing. There was music, games and most importantly, there was food. The catalyst crew went all out when it came to the mountaineering. It wasn’t well planned. It was perfectly planned. We had Hot tea and toast on top of the mountain. Personally, I’d describe it as ‘the perfect breakfast with the perfect view’. The only hitch was the fact that it was scheduled to start around 7am but due to low turnouts around that time, it started about three hours late, but it was worth the wait.

The social events for the freshers didn’t just start and end with the movie night and mountaineering of course. For Ireoluwa, it was just the tip of the iceberg as the Euphoria Freshers’ Party was hosted at the progressive hall. It was a white themed party where everyone had to have on something with a touch of white. The party took place on the 30th of January 2025. The red carpet started around 9pm and the party started at 10. Psychife members did not disappoint for this party as we came out in numbers to experience our soirée maestro’s doings firsthand. The party was free for freshers while staylites had to pay a sum of two thousand naira and others who preferred exotic lifestyles paid for the ‘table for 5’ package which was twenty-five thousand naira. The party included freshers’ pageantry for the title of Mr and Miss Psychife which made the event more lively. The winners of the pageantry were Adefioye Adeyimika and Eshemokhai Ese. After the pageantry was concluded, the party took an energetic shift as the only thing left on the bash blueprint was ‘dance dance dance’. Everyone danced till the lights went off and the party ended a few minutes after 5am. The party was what I’d describe as a ‘blast’.

To cool off after exams, another social event was planned for Tuesday, 11th March 2025. It was a pool party. It was scheduled to start by 3pm and a number of Psychife members were in attendance, including most of the SRC and executives. The entry fee was two thousand naira. The pool party was fun as it wasn’t just the regular ‘swim with the music on’ kind of thing. There were games and refreshments.

The catalyst crew really is a force to reckon with and we look forward to having more interesting social events this semester.
